I was on the KT lift at Squaw Valley when a friend said "Wow! Look at that!" Directly above us, was a perfect 'X Marks the Spot' vision. My buddy joked, "Its a sign! We're in the right place".
Funny thing is, I'd just been wondering if I was in the right place. On this gorgeous spring morning, I was having a twinge of guilt. I was fretting that I should (there's that word) be back home working. I looked up, saw the 'sign' and got over that! But then that got me thinking....
How many times do we see a 'sign' in business - and ignore it?
After all, signs are simply our imagination, right? The Force, and all that mumbo-jumbo stuff doesn't work in business. That's silly! Or is it?
Signs are all around us. We choose not to pay attention to them. Sometimes the signs warn us of a threat to our business. Sometimes they point the way to bigger opportunities. Sometimes they show us our own misdirected thinking.
Signs only show us the way when we listen.
Why do we ignore the signs? Why do we keep going along on our chosen path, looking straight ahead, neither left nor right? Even when signs are all around us - frantically waving us to a new course - we'll keep on going.
What if we paid attention to the signs?
I see signs everywhere when I'm looking for them. I tend to ignore signs when a part of me is still resisting the message that is there (I'm not ready to accept it yet or it's contrary to what I REALLY want to do/think/feel).
The emotion that springs up from within me when I've seen a sign (acknowledged or decidedly ignored) is always a true indicator that the sign holds a message or is serving as a guiding post.
Considering the number of times that honouring the signs has worked for me -- it's difficult to comprehend why I'll still resist from time to time ...

Great! This is an excellent point: "Signs only show us the way when we listen." I also think we can only perceive the signs we are "looking and listening" for to at least some extent.
So you have me left thinking about how to open my eyes to the signs I might not even be able to perceive as "signs" to begin with. Your thoughts?

Great post Rebel and 'spot' on. Paying attention to the signs is important in all aspects of our lives. It often implies a Higher Level of Consciousness to take note and take action. The more people like you that raise the question in your eloquent way the more people might sit up and take notice....
